Catalyst launches INSIGHTS horizon for defence and governement agencies

TORONTO, 2025/11/12 — PCI Geomatics (DBA CATALYST), a leading provider of Earth observation analytics and intelligence solutions, announced the launch of INSIGHTS Horizon, a comprehensive service that delivers mission critical early actionable intelligence for defence and government agencies.

Traditionally, limited data availability and slow image processing has compromised the success of a mission, leaving operations vulnerable to piracy, smuggling and other significant security threats. INSIGHTS Horizon aims to directly address these challenges; the latest in a long line of powerful solutions which leverages 40+ years of CATALYST’s heritage. It focuses on time to delivery to transform satellite imagery into accessible, mission-ready insights to enable expedited decision making for maritime and land-based security operations.

“In today’s complex security environment, the speed at which intelligence reaches decision-makers can mean the difference between mission success and failure,” said June McAlarey, CEO, at PCI Geomatics. “INSIGHTS Horizon was purpose-built to shorten the TCPED cycle, giving defence organizations the rapid, reliable intelligence they need to make confident decisions in real time.”

The flexible solution addresses key operational challenges faced by Ministries of Defence and government security agencies, particularly in monitoring expansive border regions where traditional patrol assets cannot maintain continuous coverage. By processing satellite imagery at scale, INSIGHTS Horizon enables organizations to cut through the noise, identify patterns, detect anomalies and task higher-value assets more effectively.

The solution’s cloud-based architecture enables parallel processing of multiple surveillance areas simultaneously, a critical capability when defence organizations need to monitor several high-priority zones at once.

To process massive volumes of satellite data in parallel, INSIGHTS Horizon is built on the foundation of proven AI-enabled solutions and algorithm expertise that are sensor agnostic, supporting synthetic aperture radar (SAR), electro-optical, and aerial imagery to achieve persistent monitoring capabilities, slashing time-to-insight for mission-critical operations.

Core Capabilities of INSIGHTS Horizon Include:

●        Maritime Domain Awareness: Detect, identify, classify, and track open water vessels across ports, channels, and offshore areas, with fusion of AIS data to identify dark ships and suspicious maritime border activity

●        Land-Based Border Monitoring: Track vehicle movements, identify trafficking routes, and detect anomalous activity using both optical and radar imagery

●        Pattern Recognition: Monitor large areas over extended periods to establish baselines and identify changes in activity, including vehicle and foot traffic patterns

●        Sensor-Agnostic Data Processing: Ingest and analyse imagery from any satellite constellation – commercial or national – enabling rapid response using platforms of opportunity

●        Flexible Deployment: Scalable architecture supports cloud, on-premise, or edge processing to meet diverse operational requirements

Capable of analysing an entire month of ship detection data from four global ports in seconds, INSIGHTS Horizon delivers speed, efficiency and reliability, setting a new benchmark for rapid intelligence at scale built on a microservices architecture and deployable across Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud.

CATALYST’s software is already supporting active intelligence operations and providing intergovernmental organizations with advanced dark vessel detection derived from its platform. It has also been integrated into leading commercial maritime solutions, powering the preprocessing and analysis data from diverse satellite imagery sources.

“The current geopolitical landscape has created an urgent need for sovereign intelligence capabilities,” said Kevin Jones, Chief Product Officer at PCI Geomatics. “INSIGHTS Horizon provides defence organizations with an off-the-shelf solution that can be rapidly deployed and customized to their specific operational requirements – without starting from scratch.”

CATALYST is actively engaging with government agencies and Ministries of Defence in Canada and Europe, particularly Eastern and Central Europe, where proximity to emerging threats has intensified demand for advanced border monitoring capabilities. Tailored solutions are also being developed with defence integrators and border security agencies through trusted partner networks.
