Russia’s United Engine Corporation (UEC, part of the Rostec State Corporation) is showing the fifth-generation 177S engine for tactical aircraft for the first time in Dubai

The new 117S turbofan engine fully matches the dimensions and mass of one of Russia’s most widely used aircraft engines, the AL-31F/FP, installed on the Su-27 family of combat aircraft (including the Su-30, Su-33, and Su-34), and is fully interchangeable with the AL-31. As a UEC representative told EDR On-Line, the new engine has a 1,500-hour TBO (time between overhauls), while the specified service life has been increased to 6,000 hours, and its specific fuel consumption has been reduced in all operating modes. The new Russian-made engine produces a maximum afterburner thrust of 14,500 kgf and a maximum dry thrust 9,000 kgf, with a minimum specific fuel consumption lower than 0.67 kg/kgf x h. The dry mass of the engine is 1,530 kg, with an inlet diameter of 905 mm. The engine features a three-stage low-pressure compressor, a full-authority digital automatic control system (FADEC) with a backup hydromechanical control circuit and an integrated diagnostic system, and thrust vector control.

The fan design ensures safe operation of the 177C engine in the event of foreign object or bird ingestion. Furthermore, the engine provides increased power for the electronic systems of modern aircraft.

UEC is currently completing testing of the new engine and preparing it for serial production. The 177S engine is designed to equip 4++ and 5th generation fighters, including the Su-35, Su-57 and Su-75.
