The rush to striker pistols seems to have no end. The last add-on to this category of handguns come from Belgium, FN Herstal unveiling its FN 509 in 9×19 mm. Based on the experience acquired with the FNS striker handgun, the FN 509 is a full-frame pistol designed for security forces, it is fully ambidextrous and is fitted with interchangeable back straps to adapt it to all hand sizes.
Both the slide and the grip feature effective non-slip surfaces. The weapon condition can be felt and seen thanks to a tactile and visible loaded chamber indicator, the translucent 17-round magazine allowing visual instant ammunition check. A short recoil pistol, the FN 509 is fitted with a pre-loaded striker mechanism, and it is available with or without a manual safety. The new pistol has a 4-inch barrel (101.6 mm) and is 188 mm long, its weight being 753 grams with empty magazine and 957 grams when fully loaded. It is fitted with fixed 3-dot luminescent sights that allow accurate sighting even in low light conditions; a short Picatinny rail at 6 o’ clock allows to install accessories such a laser pointer or a lighting system. FN Herstal is ready to deliver the FN 509.
