Fincantieri: Remazel, highly complex solutions at sea for civil, security and defence applications
With over 40 years of experience in offshore engineering, more than 800 projects successfully completed, and an international presence across Europe, Asia and Americas, Remazel has undergone a remarkable transformation. Acquired in 2024, Remazel represents the starting point for Fincantieri’s growth in the offshore and subsea sector.
“Remazel has evolved into a company capable of delivering highly complex solutions at sea, becoming a leader in the design and construction of equipment for the offshore market,” Fincantieri CEO, Pierroberto Folgiero said, introducing the company.
“What makes all this possible is our team of engineers, professionals with unbelievable skills and dedication. They are capable of designing and executing the most complex offshore projects in the world that only few companies are able to do,” said Remazel CEO, Andrea Rosa, taking as an example the largest motion compensated lifting system ever built, installed on Pioneering Spirit, the biggest vessel in the world designed to uninstall oil platforms in the middle of the sea. “It’s not only impressive. It is about intelligence, accuracy, and strong project management execution. Our system is available to operate in any condition, assuring reliability, safety, and efficient operation.” Having developed a strong expertise in the Oil and Gas and Wind offshore sectors – providing a wide range of equipment, including launch and recovery systems for ROVs used in different offshore energy and research applications, such as deep-sea mining to extract rare earths at depths of 5,000 metres using 40 tonnes vehicles, “Remazel recently secured a contract to develop mission-critical equipment which is intended for the protection of critical infrastructure such as subsea cables and pipelines, which marked a significant step for Remazel in gaining experience and entering a promising market,” Rosa added.
Remazel has also developed a Launch and Recovery System (LARS) for underwater system collector’s deployment with heave passive compensation and subsea automatic connection and disconnection. Designed to withstand extreme ocean depths and pressures, it is equipped with a robust 6,000 metres umbilical cable for power and control.
“All this competence, know-how and knowledge will remain in Italy, thanks to the acquisition made by Fincantieri one year ago. And I strongly believe that our team will give an important contribution to the underwater project we are presenting today. We have already started to collaborate with WASS for some applications in the defence market, and more are to come with other Fincantieri companies,” Remazel CEO concluded.
