The FDI will provide the Royal Swedish Navy with a latest-generation frigate and extended capabilities in all warfare domains with rapid delivery timeline, to meet the operational needs expressed by the Ministry of Defence. This selection also reinforces our strategic partnership with Sweden and shows the strength of industrial cooperation in Europe. We are proud to contribute to securing Europe.” – Pierre Éric Pommellet, Chairman and CEO of Naval Group.
FDI, a fully operational and combat-ready frigate
The FDI selected by the Swedish Ministry of Defence is the latest-generation frigate, combat-ready and multi-mission, fully operational in the French and Hellenic navies, with proven capabilities in all warfare fields, notably with strong Aster-based anti-air warfare capabilities. The FDI is able of handling current and emerging threats all over the seas, from the demanding seas of the High North to warm seas. The FDI frigate will provide the Royal Swedish Navy with the extended capabilities to support the country’s key role within inter-allied and NATO’s naval operations. The frigates will reinforce Swedish naval forces and play a key-role in protecting the country.
With two units already delivered to the French and Hellenic navies and a production line fully proven, the FDI has a mature design allowing to meet Sweden’s rapid delivery timeline, ensuring rapid reinforcement of naval capabilities at a time when speed matters.
