Bundeswehr orders another 300 Wolf successors

Koblenz, 19 December 2024 – The ongoing modernization of the Bundeswehr’s vehicle fleet does not stop at what is probably the most well-known and proven workhorse. As early as mid-2024, it was contractually agreed that the aging WOLF light truck would be replaced by a modern vehicle specifically designed for military applications.

To this end, the Bundeswehr’s procurement office concluded a corresponding framework agreement in July 2024, from which up to 5,800 light trucks can be procured by the end of 2032. With the conclusion of the framework agreement, the production and delivery of 1,200 light trucks have already been firmly contracted.

The order placed today for an additional 300 vehicles from the framework agreement completes the first batch. Due to the volume of the order, the order was approved yesterday by the Budget Committee of the German Bundestag.

The successor model, called “WOLF 2”, is also highly capable off-road and is designed to transport up to four soldiers with complete personal equipment and armament in the command vehicle and military police vehicle variants. The functional equipment with modern management tools was taken into account right from the start. Therefore, when delivered, the vehicles are already prepared to accept the D-LBO radio and command equipment. The project therefore also makes an important contribution to the timely fulfillment of Germany’s NATO obligations.

The use of the same chassis as in the airborne platform project that has already been commissioned also brings with it synergy effects and advantages in terms of training and logistics.

The Bundeswehr received the first five vehicles in accordance with the contract in mid-November this year. These are currently undergoing qualification and operational testing.

Assuming the investigations are completed successfully and on time, delivery of the first series vehicles can be expected as planned at the end of 2025.
