Cambridge company Thermoteknix designs new Augmented Reality (AR) technology to transform night-time soldier combat

11 June 2021 – Cambridge, UK, for immediate release:Thermal imaging and night vision specialist Thermoteknix has launched a new Augmented Reality (AR) Tactical Interface Module, or ARTIM for short, with enhanced real-time data sharing capabilities, delivering superior night-time surveillance and combat capabilities to troops on the battleground.

ARTIM delivers real-time Augmented Reality (AR) displayed via Night Vision Goggles (NVGs) fitted with its award-winning Thermal Clip-on System.

The Thermal Clip-on System enhances night-time vision, surveillance and detection. The UK MoD already has precured £3.2 million worth of the thermal imaging technology this month for the British Army. (Read MoD release here…https://des.mod.uk/night-vision-goggles-british-army/)

ARTIM integrates with existing digitalised soldier systems and secure communication networks to offer real-time data sharing and instant situational awareness for collaboration across teams and agencies. (More images are available.)

ARTIM is compatible withAndroid Team Awareness Kit (ATAK). ATAK is a secure, mobile, interactive geospatial tool, used the world over, by military and law enforcement agencies around the world. ATAK connects multiple users people or teams on the go to, providing real-time, geo-referenced navigation and intuitive interface for sharing live information and identifying teammates, targets and route points.

The addition of ARTIM enhances existing thermal imaging capabilities available with the Thermoteknix ClipIR XD Thermal Clip-on Systems by adding ultra-low latency Augmented Reality (AR) technology, while also providing power to the ClipIR XD for up to 24 hours of operation.

Military forces and civilian law enforcement agencies have integrated ClipIR XD Thermal Clip-on Systems into their night-time resources, taking advantage of its exceptional enhanced situational awareness and increased threat detection capabilities at low light or no light situations.

ClipIR XD converts existing monocular or binocular night vision devices by fusing thermal imaging and night vision technologies to provide superior tactical advantages compared to standard night vision or thermal imaging alone.
The UK MoD is equipping soldiers with the state-of-the-art ClipIR XD Thermal Clip-on Systems (TCOS) from Thermoteknix for the British Army, to improve soldiers’ abilities to fight further, faster and smarter.
