FEINDEF 2025

The International scenario is certainly pushing the defence sector, but this is not enough to explain the steep curves of the exhibitors and visitors statistics of the Feria Internacional de Defensa y Seguridad, better known with its acronym FEINDEF, the biennial defence and security exhibitions hosted in May of uneven years at IFEMA (Institución Ferial de Madrid), the exhibition centre of the Spanish capital city. Another reason is certainly the increasing dimension of the Spanish defence industry, which is growing also in quality, and which is extending its footprint in many export markets.

Inaugurated on May 12th by the Minister for Defence, Margarita Robles, and numerous other personalities among whom the Secretary of State for Defence, María Amparo Valcarce, hosted by Ángel Olivares, the Chairman of the FEINDEF Foundation, the 2025 edition was occupying four halls of the Madrid exhibition complex, one more than last time, the latter hosting a static exhibition of military assets as well as major industrial products that could not fit into the company stands.

Coming to number, the 4th edition of FEINDEF saw the participation of around 600 exhibitors (+33%) from 57 countries, while the increase in the number of visitors was even higher, 44,000 people including 91 international delegations attending the three-day event (+76%).

Numerous new systems, mostly from Spanish companies, were unveiled at FEINDEF 2025, ranging from self-propelled howitzers, to rocket launchers, to loitering munitions, and others. New technologies were of course highlighted, cyber and artificial intelligence being the most obvious. Conferences and debates on disruptive technologies were organised within the Innova Space. And of course numerous memorandums were signed between Spanish and foreign companies, aiming at increasing bilateral and multilateral cooperation.

The next edition is announced for May 2027, no exact date being yet available. Considering that the ReArm Europe could not yet have a full effect on FEINDEF 2025, the same applying to the Euro 10.5 billion investment plan to ensure Spain will reach the 2% GDP target required by NATO, announced by Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez less than one month prior the opening of the exhibition, the 5th edition of the Madrid exhibition might see a further considerable growth.
