First test firing of the new generation medium-range surface-to-air defense system

On October 8, the Directorate General of Armaments (DGA) carried out the first qualification firing of the new generation Franco-Italian ground-air defense system on the DGA Missile Testing site, in Biscarrosse (Landes), in the presence of Sébastien Lecornu, Minister of the Armed Forces and Veterans.

• This is the first development firing of the ASTER 30 B1 New Technology missile, which will equip the future Franco-Italian ground-to-air defense system SAMP/T NG and the naval platforms of the two nations equipped with defense systems anti-aircraft.

• Two aerial targets were deployed to simulate a complex ground-to-air defense situation, with a target representative of an enemy fighter and a target representative of a friendly aircraft to defend.

DGA Missile Tests ensured the overall management of the operation, the implementation of targets as well as the security of property and people in the exercise area.

The new generation medium-range/terrestrial ground-air system (SAMP/T NG) is a Franco-Italian program developed by EUROSAM (an interest group of companies bringing together MBDA France, MBDA Italy and Thalès). It is managed by the Joint Armaments Cooperation Organization (OCCAr) and is intended to ensure the protection of the skies against aerial threats (planes, missiles and drones).
