Intermarine (IMMSI Group): lamination of the hull of the first New-Generation Minehunter for the Italian Navy begins
Sarzana (La Spezia), 25 September 2025 – Today at the Sarzana shipyard, Intermarine S.p.A. (IMMSI industrial group – IMS.MI) launched fibreglass lamination of the hull of the first New-Generation Minehunter commissioned by the Italian Navy.
The lamination ceremony – an event of great importance for Intermarine, for the Italian Navy and for the Italian shipbuilding industry – was held in the presence of the President of the Liguria Region,
Marco Bucci, the Director of Naval Armaments, Chief Inspector Admiral Giuseppe Abbamonte, the Chairman and the CEO of the Immsi Group, respectively Matteo and Michele Colaninno, the CEO of Intermarine, Livio Corghi, and senior local officials.
The application of the first layer gives shape to a new class of unique state-of-the-art minehunters, equipped with cutting-edge technologies that extend the vessels’ operational capabilities in the new era of seabed surveillance and protection of critical underwater infrastructures.
Modularity, Interoperability and Multi-Mission capabilities are the cornerstones of the complex architecture of these new-generation vessels, which combine traditional minehunter characteristics (resistance to shocks generated by underwater explosions, non-magnetism and silent operation) with advanced technologies and extensive use of autonomous vehicles to operate across the whole underwater spectrum.
Thanks to the exclusive characteristics of the hulls (resistance to shocks generated by underwater explosions and low magneto-acoustic signature) and to the operational potential offered by the latest combat system technologies – such as multi-domain sonar, command and control, including integrated management of unmanned vehicles – the New-Generation Minehunters will be able to perform a wide variety of missions.
With a length of 63 meters and a displacement of approximately 1,300 tonnes, the NGM/C will be distinguished by their ability to conduct mine countermeasures operations inside minefields, guaranteeing crew safety and using different types of autonomous vehicles as force multipliers and capability gap fillers.
