Joint trip by Sébastien Lecornu, Minister of the Armed Forces of France, and Guido Crosetto, Minister of Defence of Italy, to Corsica, April 29, 2024

On April 29, 2024, the Minister of the Armed Forces of France, Sébastien Lecornu and the Italian Minister of Defence, Guido Crosetto, visited Camp Raffalli, home of the 2nd Foreign Parachute Regiment, in Calvi.

On this occasion, they signed a Letter Of Intent aimed at improving cooperation among European land defence industries. The latter will allow both countries to take full advantage of the skills of their respective defence industrial and technological bases. The General Directorate of Armaments (DGA) and its Italian counterpart, the General Secretariat of Defense and the National Armaments Directorate, will ensure the implementation of the guidelines and management of the resulting actions.

The objective is twofold. On the one hand, it is a question of improving the competitiveness, efficiency and innovation capacity of the European defense industry in the land domain, with a view to increasing its resilience and autonomy. It also aims to accelerate the rise in maturity of common technological building blocks.

This visit, as well as the signing of this letter of intent, illustrate the joint ambitions of the two countries to cooperate together in the face of the evolving spectrum of threats, both in a bilateral framework and in the European Union or NATO framework.
