PAS 2025 – Terma spreads its wings

David Oliver

The Danish Terma Group develops products and systems for defence capabilities including command and control systems, radar systems, self-protection systems for aircraft, space technology, and aerostructures for the aircraft industry

Arjen Vos, Vice President Europe Defense and General Manager Terma BV told EDR On-Line that the company is continuing to support Terma’s self-protection systems on former Danish and Dutch F-16s being supplied to Argentina, Chile and Ukraine, and former Norwegian F-16s to Romania. Ukraine has employed F-16s in anti-drone, anti-missile, and strike missions, using the upgraded ECIPS+ and PIDS+ pylons packed with EW systems capable of detecting, denying, and defeating threats.

Terma is also supplying more than 80 components for the F-35 Lightning II including its Multi-Mission Pod which is based on its F-35 Gun Pod, the only certified design for an external pod for the Lightning II. The Multi-Mission Pod can be tailored to provide capabilities including EW/Self-Protection, Concealed Stores Carriage, ISR Payloads, Power Generation, Directed Energy Capability, additional Jammers, or any other hardware capability.

Terma won a USAF contract in 2024 for its 3D-Audio and Radio Separation functions that offers pilots the only end-to-end solution that optimises the overall sound field in your aircrew’s helmets. By separating and rearranging incoming radio calls, the audio-environment becomes less stressful, as well as more accurate.

In March 2025 Terma unveiled SCANTER Sphera, a 3D radar system delivering true 360° situational awareness and advanced AI-powered drone detection. Building on the field-proven performance of the SCANTER 5000 and 6000 series, SCANTER Sphera brings these capabilities into the evolving counter-UAS domain. It adds 3D coverage, AI-driven classification, and enhanced mobility, making it uniquely suited to detect and respond to modern drone threats with greater speed and precision.

Terma also secured a contract earlier this year to integrate its command-and-control software, BMD-Flex, into Slovakia’s recently acquired Barak MX Air Defence System. This framework will seamlessly connect sensors, battle management systems, and interceptors into a network-centric defence network.

Terma extended its portfolio in the space domain when it acquired the Atos satellite ground testing business in 2022, covering Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE) for satellites. Arjen Vos said that earlier this year Terma had signed a contract with Poland to provide a space-based C2 management system developed by Atos.

At Le Bourget, it was also announced that Terma and Thales had signed a Memorandum of Understanding that covers future cooperation within three core domains, air and air defence, naval and space.
