Rheinmetall supplies NATO customer a significant number of HERO Loitering Munitions – oder worth in the three-digit-million Euro range
November 26, 2025 – Rheinmetall has been commissioned by a NATO customer to supply HERO Loitering Munition Systems. A total of several hundred systems have been ordered this year. The value of the contracts is in the low three-digit-million euro range gross. Deliveries will begin in the first quarter of 2026 and are scheduled to be completed by the end of next year. The LM systems will be produced in Italy by RWM Italia with the support of the partner UVision Air Ltd.
The ordered HERO systems are equipped with the latest generation of high performance anti-tank warheads developed by Rheinmetall.
In RWM Italia’s modern production facility the serial production of Loitering Munitions is at full speed. The current range of products includes:
• HERO 30 (small, portable LM for infantry usage)
• HERO 120 (Medium-sized LM for precision strikes against armoured vehicles and immovable installations)
• HERO 400 (Medium/long-range LM for precision strikes against fortified positions)
Several NATO customers in Europe have placed orders.
In recent years, drones and Loitering Munitions have become increasingly important in modern warfare. Rheinmetall has responded to this development, both in terms of the deployment of these modern weapons as well as the defence against them.
Rheinmetall’s UAS and loitering munitions portfolio also includes the LUNA NG reconnaissance drone and several other models in different classes. Rheinmetall also cooperates with other well-known companies in this business segment, such as Lockheed Martin, Anduril and Auterion.
In addition, drone defence is another area in which Rheinmetall is a leader. Its portfolio covers the entire sensor-to-effector chain, from detection and identification to countermeasures using jammers, cannon-based air defence systems (e.g. “Skyranger”) or high-energy lasers.
