SITM 2025
The initiative to organise the 1st International Mountain Troops Summit, SITM in French acronym, came from the 27th BIM; “It was an intuition shared between our units and the foreign partners with whom we work regularly,” Brigadier General Lionel Catar, the Brigade Commander told EDR On-Line. The location was quite obvious, Grenoble, which hosts not only the Brigade HQ but also many other players linked to the mountain. The exhibition area already existed, the Alpexpo premises being perfect for this kind of event, COGES Events, the organiser of the well-known Eurosatory exhibition, among others, providing its organisational know-how.
For two days, in mid-February, military and industrial experts gathered in Grenoble, which therefore became the centre of the mountain and cold weather military world. Doctrine, tactics, technology, innovations, linked to mountain and arctic scenarios, were the areas touched upon during the event, with multinational speakers taking the floor to share their ideas.
“The idea was really to bring together all these actors and then to exchange our experiences, such as the engagement in hot mountains, in cold mountains, in very cold zones like the Arctic, and then to see how this community of particular soldiers can interact and exchange with the industrial world and the economic one,” BG Catar adds.
Mobility, energy, transport, resupply, medicine, were among the topics discussed at SITM, together with training, doctrine, and views on the impact of climate changing on cold weather and mountain warfare.
EDR On-Line will find hereafter the articles on some of the topics that were discussed at the event in Grenoble.
