GÖKSUR breaks new ground in Türkiye’s naval defense
Ankara, 7 October 2025 — ASELSAN successfully conducted the live-fire test of GÖKSUR Air Defense System, marking a historic milestone in Türkiye’s naval defense capabilities with the first successful interception of a sea-skimming target by a domestically developed missile.
ASELSAN, Türkiye’s leading defense company, carried out the live-fire test in Sinop, located in the northern Black Sea region of Türkiye. The test demonstrated the system’s exceptional performance as the GÖKSUR IIR missile, equipped with an advanced imaging infrared seeker, successfully struck a sea-skimming target at a range exceeding 11 kilometers.
The firing was conducted from ASELSAN’s indigenously developed GÖKSUR 100-N VLS (Vertical Launch System), showcasing the Türkiye’s growing expertise in national missile- launch technologies. The missile was guided via ASELSAN’s GÜDÜ data link during its mid- course phase and autonomously locked onto its target with precision in the terminal phase, achieving a direct hit and complete destruction of the target.
Developed by ASELSAN with contribution of TÜBİTAK SAGE, GÖKSUR product family delivers high-efficiency point air defense for surface platforms against threats such as sea-skimming anti-ship and cruise missiles, unmanned aerial vehicles, and combat aircraft. By modernizing shipboard missile-defense architectures and establishing a robust protective layer, the system enhances the naval deterrence and self-defense capabilities of Türkiye and its allies.
Ahmet Akyol, ASELSAN President & CEO, emphasized the strategic significance of the achievement: “With GÖKSUR, Türkiye has reached a new milestone in its naval defense capability. This success not only strengthens our naval defense and deterrence but also underscores ASELSAN’s commitment to developing indigenous, game-changing systems that ensure the operational superiority of armed forces.”
