IMDEX 2025 – High-precision GNSS inertial navigation system for demanding environments by SBG SYSTEMS
At IMDEX 2025 in Singapore, SBG SYSTEMS showcased the Ekinox Micro, a compact, high-performance GNSS-assisted inertial navigation system (INS) designed for demanding land, sea and air applications. It combines a tactical-grade MEMS inertial sensor with a dual-antenna, multi-constellation, multi-frequency GNSS receiver to deliver exceptional accuracy and robustness, even in harsh conditions or degraded GNSS environments
The tactical-grade (0.8°/hr) MEMS inertial measurement unit (IMU) is coupled to an integrated, dual-antenna, multi-frequency (GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, Beidou) GNSS receiver with Satellite-Based Augmentation System, Real Time Kinematic (RTK), Post Processed Kinematic (PPK) support and advanced GNSS jamming and spoofing mitigation algorithms.
It has horizontal position accuracy (RTK) of 1 cm + 1 ppm, and a vertical position accuracy (RTK) of 1 cm + 0.5 ppm, roll/pitch accuracy 0.015° (RTK/PPK), 0.03° (single point), a heading accuracy of 0.05° (RTK), 0.035° (PPK), 0.108° (single point), with a speed accuracy of 0.02 m/s (RTK), 0.05 m/s (single point) and an output rate of 200 Hz (IMU, INS).
This rugged receiver measures 42 x 57 x 60 mm and has a mass of 165 grams. It can operate in temperatures ranging from -40°C to +71°C, with shock resistance of up to 40 g and maximum rotation of 490°/s. Its protection rating is IP68 (immersion in 1.5 metres for 2 hours), resistant to paraffin sprays and MIL-STD-461G, MIL-STD-1275E and MIL-STD-810H compliant.
Its connectivity and integration features include Ethernet (10/100 base T), PTP/NTP, NTRIP, Web interface, FTP, with 4 serial ports up to 921,600 bps, a bus up to 921,600 bps, a REST API, NMEA, ASCII and sbgECom (binary) formats, and a built-in data logger (8 GB, 48 hours at 200 Hz).
Other features include pre-configured motion profiles (land, air, sea), automatic regression mode in the event of GNSS loss (Dead Reckoning), and a calculated MTBF of 246,000 hours.
Typical applications include autonomous vehicles (UAVs, UGVs), mobile mapping, topography, geo-referencing, marine and underwater navigation, defence systems, critical on-board systems, mobile robotics, railways and fleet management.
The Ekinox Micro stands out for its excellent compromise between compactness, robustness and a very high level of performance in GNSS-assisted inertial navigation. It meets the needs of critical applications requiring centimetre accuracy and high reliability, even in the most hostile environments.
