LAAD 2019

The 12th edition of LAAD Defence & Security, the leading Latin American exhibition of defense and security segments, took place in April 2-5 at Riocentro, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

LAAD is the leading Latin American Defence and Security exhibition supported by the Brazilian Ministry of Defence and the three Armed Forces as well as the Brazilian Ministry of Justice and Brazil’s Public Security’s structure.

The official delegates programme was attended by 195 official authorities of defence and security from 80 countries including Brazil, Latin America and other regions. Although the exhibition space was smaller than 2017, the event attracted 376 international and national exhibitors that provide technologies, equipment and services for the armed forces, Special Forces, police forces, Homeland Security and also security managers from large companies, service concessionaires and critical infrastructure.

One of the highlights of the first day, at which the media were not invited, was when the Brazilian Defence Minister Fernando Azevedo received the Deputy Minister of Defense of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed Almazid. During their meeting, Minister Azevedo heard about the Asian country’s interest in intensifying business with Brazil in the area of ​​Defense. Almazid praised Brazilian products such as the Astros System, already acquired by them and the KC-390 freighter. Representatives of the Defense Ministries of Brazil and Saudi Arabia agreed to prepare a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to intensify relations in the Defense area. This document enables cooperation in the areas of science and teaching.
