NSPA supports Germany with contract for additional PATRIOT missiles
Luxembourg, 24 September 2025 – The NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) will support Germany with an amendment to the contract for additional PATRIOT™ Guidance Enhanced Missiles (GEM-T) to replenish the German inventory.
“With the support of the NSPA, we were able to conclude this contract at short notice in order to rapidly increase ammunition stocks for our PATRIOT weapon systems. With this procurement of PATRIOT missiles, we are contributing to equipping our PATRIOT units and thus strengthening NATO’s integrated air and missile defence, but also to expanding industrial production capacities.” Ms Anke Meyer, Deputy Director-General for Armament at the German Federal Ministry of Defence
“This contract underscores how NATO Allies benefit from working with NSPA. The Agency’s multinational acquisition framework delivers critical capabilities at speed and scale. Close collaboration between industry and Allies remains essential to delivering proven, mission-ready solutions.” Ms Stacy A. Cummings, NSPA General Manager
“Raytheon proudly supports NSPA and its vital mission to maintain European security and deter aggression. The PATRIOT air and missile defense system and GEM-T missile are crucial components of Europe’s defense architecture, and our collective team is ready to meet the current and future needs of our customers.” Mr Tom Laliberty, president of Land & Air Defense Systems at Raytheon
GEM-T, the PATRIOT Advanced Capability 2 (PAC-2) missile interceptor enhanced for defeating tactical ballistic missiles, is a primary effector for the combat-proven PATRIOT air and missile defense system.
NSPA manages the PATRIOT Support Partnership (SP), a framework that exemplifies NATO’s modern approach to shared defence procurement and sustainment.
PATRIOT (Phased Array Tracking Radar to Intercept of Target) entered service in the 1980s and has since proven itself in combat and deterrence roles worldwide.
For four decades, PATRIOT has been a cornerstone of Allied integrated air and missile defence. NSPA is proud to work alongside participating nations and industry partners to sustain, modernise, and adapt this capability to meet evolving threats.
Today, PATRIOT is relied upon by eight European nations, and Ukraine, for defense against cruise missiles, ballistic missiles, and enemy drones and aircraft. The system is the foundation of air defense for 19 countries and continues to demonstrate its effectiveness against the most advanced and complex threats.
In 2024, NSPA announced a multi-year, multinational framework contract to support a coalition of nations, including Germany, the Netherlands, Romania, Spain and Sweden with a combined quantity of up to 1,000 PATRIOT™.
