Orizzonte Sistemi Navali signs contract for the Italian Navy’s Distributed Training

Genoa, October 22, 2024 – Orizzonte Sistemi Navali (OSN), a joint venture between Fincantieri and Leonardo, with shares of 51% and 49%, respectively, has signed a contract worth approximately 23 million euros with NAVARM (Naval Armament Directorate) for the supply of the Navy’s Distributed Training System (TDMM).

The goal of this contract is to develop a Synthetic Training System for Naval and Air Forces, which will progressively integrate various existing and future training systems in a synthetic and geographically distributed operational environment. This system aims to enable the simultaneous participation of entities from different Warfare Domains, located in different areas/sites, in an exercise conducted from the Control Room.

The core of the Distributed Training System for the Italian Navy (MMI) is the design and creation of the Control Room, which will be located at the Naval Air Training Center (MARICENTADD) in Taranto, from where exercises can be directed.

More specifically, naval units, the Combat Operations Centers at MARICENTADD and the Naval Planning Center (MARICENPROG), as well as the Naval Maneuver Simulators (SINAM) of the Second Naval Division (COMDINAV TWO), the Fourth Naval Division (COMDINAV FOUR), and the Command of the Mine Countermeasure Forces (MARICODRAG), will be able to participate in exercises by connecting to a secure training network.

Orizzonte Sistemi Navali’s system integration skills will complement those of the Fincantieri Group, through its subsidiary Cetena, and Leonardo, a defense player, with whom OSN will finalize respective sub-supply contracts in the coming weeks.

Giovanni Sorrentino, CEO of Orizzonte Sistemi Navali, stated: “The signing of the contract for the Distributed Training System for the Navy by Orizzonte Sistemi Navali is further proof of Fincantieri’s and Leonardo’s commitment to making the Joint Venture a center of integration of their respective naval expertise. The TDMM is an extremely innovative project, where real assets will interact with virtual scenarios and simulators, enhancing the quality and realism of training, allowing the Navy to have a unique tool at its disposal.”
