Presentation of the project to acquire command, liaison and reconnaissance vehicles for the Luxembourg army

On June 2, 2021, the Government Council approved the preliminary draft law authorizing the financing of the acquisition of 80 armored command, liaison and reconnaissance vehicles (CLRV) for the Luxembourg army as well as their logistical support.

The Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense, François Bausch, specifies that this investment aims to modernize the existing fleet of vehicles by replacing the current “Hummer” and “PRV” (Protected Reconnaissance Vehicle) vehicles of the army which have become obsolete, in order to guarantee the best protection of personnel and improve interoperability with allied countries.

The maximum estimated financial envelope amounts to 367 million euros and covers the acquisition costs of vehicles as well as their weapons and communication subsystems including logistic support throughout their estimated life cycle between approximately 15 and 20 years.

This investment is part of the objective of 0.72% of GDP for Luxembourg’s defense effort to be reached in 2024. In addition, this acquisition is also part of the high added value contributions that Luxembourg continues to provide in the context of NATO, the EU as well as the UN, collective defense, peacekeeping operations (PKO), crisis prevention and management.

The project will be carried out with the support of the NSPA agency (NATO Support and Procurement Agency) located in Capellen.
