The Corporación de la Industria Aeronáutica Colombiana CIAC SA, presented at Expodefensa 2021 the Coelum UAV which was delivered on the very day of the inauguration to the Colombian Air Force (FAC). This acquisition consists of three systems each composed of two planes.

With the aim of strengthening the defence and security of the country, CIAC highlighted the advances of the innovative Coelum drone system, which has a maximum take-off weight of only 5 kilograms and a flight autonomy of between 60 and 90 minutes. It can be flown in manual, automatic or assisted mode, its programming and route tracking being done by waypoints. Capable of day and night operations, it provides a real-time HD video streaming.

The Coelum propulsion is provided by an electric motor powered by batteries, and can reach a maximum altitude of 3,200 meters, equipped with an  EO/IR camera with a x20 optical zoom and a x40 digital zoom. It can employed both for military or civilian missions, and can cope with multiple uses such as monitoring roads, energy systems, pipelines, ports, as well as for search and rescue of personnel in support of civil defence and firefighters.

According to CIAC, this system was developed in recent years and is expected to become the catalyst project for the development of the Colombian aerospace industry. Among its main applications, the Coelum has the ability to perform intelligence, reconnaissance, identification and surveillance of targets on terrains difficult to access, thanks to its light weight, its ease of transport and commissioning.
