MARSS achieves major milestones in South-East Asian Navy contract

This project, which marks MARSS’s debut in equipping front-line combat ships, has recently reached several crucial milestones.  Factory testing of MARSS systems has been successfully completed, while manufacturing of equipment for the first two vessels has been completed and delivered to the client.

The MARSS solution for these corvette-class vessels includes a comprehensive suite of advanced technologies, including a Sentinel sonar system, produced by Sonardyne, and Teledyne FLIR EO cameras, These next generation sensors, alongside the client’s legacy radar system, will all be assimilated into NiDAR’s single situational awareness picture, both on a large touchscreen on the bridge and a mobile option for flexible monitoring anywhere on the vessel.

Frederik Giepmans, Managing Director MARSS Maritime, commented on the progress: “Following our initial announcement earlier this year, we’re thrilled to report such positive progress in this project. The successful completion of factory tests and equipment delivery for the first two vessels, in such a short space of time, underscores MARSS’s ability to provide  top-tier security systems  to  combat-facing ships.”

This integrated system, combined with MARSS’s AI platform, creates a 360-degree security ‘bubble’, enabling the detection, classification and tracking of asymmetric threats across all domains – in the air, on land, on the surface and below water.

“MARSS will provide this Navy with state of the art situational awareness,” Giepmans explained. “From long-range detection to seamless handover for threat management, NiDAR reduces  the cognitive burden on operators and increases  the probability of defeat of an incoming threat.”

The project timeline remains on track, with the first vessel’s system fit-out by MARSS scheduled to begin in June 2025, and handover expected in August 2026. The second vessel’s installation is set to commence in February 2026, with delivery in April 2027.  Meanwhile the navy has also reached its own significant milestone, with the first of its vessels in the series recently achieving floatation.
