Russia’s small arms manufacturer Orsis has demonstrated its latest F17 multi-calibre high-precision bolt-action sniper rifle at the IDEX 2019 defence show and conference being held in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates, on 17-21 February.

The F17 is the first multi-calibre sniper rifle in the portfolio of the Orsis company that is famous for its T-5000 and T-5000M (M for Upgraded, Modernizirovannaya) firearms. “The [F17] sniper rifle with a manually-activated sliding bolt that features three locking lugs. The firearm is accurate at a distance of up to 1,500 m and has high reliability and level of ergonomics. Owing to an effective recoil compensation system, the rifle allows a sniper to engage single targets swiftly,” a representative of Orsis told European Defence Review.

According to him, the rifle can be supplied in three configurations. The basic one is chambered for 7.62×51 mm (.308 Winchester) ammunition. This rifle is 1,293 mm long, weighs 7.3 kg in combat mode, and features a 660 mm barrel. The firearm is fed by a 5-round detachable magazine made of polymer. “The rifle has an accuracy of 0.5 MOA [minute of arc] and is accurate at a distance of 800 m,” said the source.

The modification of the firearm for the US-originated 7.62×67 mm (.300 Winchester) cartridge has received a longer barrel (700 mm) that has increased the weapon’s length to 1,333 mm. Having the same accuracy and magazine capacity, the .300 Winchester variant of the rifle allows engagement of a target at a distance of up to 1,200 m.

Orsis has also chambered the F17 for 8.6×70 mm (.338 Lapua Magnum) ammunition. This modification has the longest firing range (up to 1,500 m), while the remaining main specifications are identical to those of the .300 Winchester firearm.

At the IDEX 2019 show, the company has also showcased its variant of AK-family weapon modernization.
