MKE introduces “Balkin” 130 mm chaff countermeasure following successful test firings

30.12.2025-Turkish defence industry company, Makine ve Kimya Endüstrisi (MKE) continues to develop next-generation ammunition and weapon systems for air, land, and naval platforms, with its century-long manufacturing background and advanced engineering capabilities.

Developed by MKE engineers, the MKE BALKIN 130 mm Chaff countermeasure was unveiled for the first time at IDEF 2025. Following the successful completion of test firings, the system is ready for serial production now.

With this achievement, MKE has ended Türkiye’s foreign dependency on another strategic defence product through the domestically developed BALKIN system.

Enhanced protection for naval forces with Balkin

BALKIN, meaning “radiant” or “shining” in Turkish languages, the system has been specifically designed for use on naval platforms. Developed to enhance the defensive capabilities of a naval platform, the MKE BALKIN 130 mm Chaff provides an effective countermeasure against radio-frequency (RF) seeker-guided missiles.

Thanks to its wide-band electromagnetic protection capability and high radar reflectivity, BALKIN delivers strong deception performance against radar-guided threats. By significantly increasing the protection level of naval platforms, it offers military vessels an effective and sustainable defensive solution.

The countermeasure contains specialized particles designed to deceive radar systems. With airburst detonation, these particles disperse to form a cloud that remains in the air, misleading radar-guided missiles and preventing naval vessels from being targeted.

BALKIN stands out with its high export potential for countries investing in naval forces.
