IDEF 2019: Turkey showcases its defence industry capabilities

Inaugurated by the Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, in the morning of April 30th, the 2019 edition of IDEF (International DEfence industry Fair) aims at breaking the record of the previous edition which saw 820 exhibitors from over 50 nations showing their products to more than 65,000 visitors from 116 countries.

Numerous unveilings are expected, among which new vehicles for the Turkish Army, such as the Altay MBT in the production configuration, the amphibious assault vehicle, as well as technology demonstrators such as an all-electric armoured vehicle. In the air the Anka-Aksungur UAV and the Multirole Heavy Combat Helicopter will be starring for the first time in front of a public audience.

Turkey is definitely aiming at independence in the defence sector, while numerous Turkish company have become major players on the export market.

Organised by the Turkish Armed Forces Foundation under the auspices of the Presidency of the Republic of Turkey, IDEF covers some 120,000 m2 in 12 different halls at the Tüyap Fair and Congress Center.
